Sections 182A and 182B of the SSAA 1992 as inserted by Sections 20 and 21 of SS(F)A 1997 relate to the return of social security post and the requirement that the Post Office provides information about the redirection of that post. This provision extends to all benefit-related post sent by LAs in envelopes clearly marked "Do Not Redirect".
Participation in the DNR scheme has a number of advantages. It can:
- act as an early warning that there may be an attempted fraud taking place
- make it harder for fraudsters to perpetrate fraud from an empty property
- provide useful intelligence about possible suspect addresses.
To assist LA’s in this service, R & B Solutions can:
- Collect, monitor and analyse data to identify trends resulting from the DNR scheme.
- Ensure the fraud investigation section receives appropriate post returned under the DNR scheme
- Ensure a sift is undertaken and the LA investigates all appropriate cases where it appears benefit has been paid whilst a redirection has been in force
